Description
Madison photographer John S. Fuller made these unique photographs between 1860 and 1863, which lay forgotten in a Texas collection until their discovery in 1996. The small but invaluable collection includes the only known photographic prints of the first state capitol building (with the second rising behind it), and the only known photograph from this period of Camp Randall, where most of Wisconsin’s Civil War troops trained.
Jack Holzhueter is the former associate editor for the Wisconsin Magazine of History and has written and lectured extensively on Wisconsin history.
