New and updated features of this title
- In the Forensics Lab appears in all but one of the 11 body systems, explores the role of forensic scientists and provides students with fascinating information about the process of gathering forensic data.
- All-new On the Surface activities cover surface anatomy, which is the study of internal structures in relation to features on the surface of the body. This feature directs students on how to find these structures using their own bodies as models.
- Enlarged illustrations make learning easier.
- Upgraded Martini art comes from Martini/Nath Fundamentals of Anatomy & Physiology, 8th Edition for saturated colors, increased dimensionality and dramatic effect.
- Clear and easily identifiable in-text reference to the myA&P website appear at the beginning of every exercise. Additionally, PAL is mentioned at the start of each relevant exercise, and a navigation pathway points students exactly to where the relevant PAL content can be found.
About our author
Stephen Sarikas is a professor at Lasell College in Newton, Massachusetts (outside of Boston), where he teaches courses in anatomy & physiology, biology, and environmental science. Professor Sarikas is the 2008-2011 recipient of the Joan Weiler Arnow Professorship, an award given to a Lasell College faculty member with a record of excellence in teaching, professional development, and leadership. He is also a Lecturer of Occupational Therapy in the Boston School of Occupational Therapy at Tufts University. He received his Ph.D. (Anatomy) from the Boston University School of Medicine, his M.S. (Zoology) from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale, and his B.S. from the University of Massachusetts. His current research interest is AIDS/HIV awareness among college students. He is a member of the Human Anatomy and Physiology Society (HAPS) and the National Science Teachers Association (NSTA). He is also an enthusiastic Red Sox fan.
Hallmark features of this title
- Questions to Consider follow almost every activity within a lab exercise, prompting students to think about the concepts they have just explored and increasing the probability that students will both understand and remember them.
- Form a Hypothesis…Assess the Outcome encourages students to apply the scientific method, think critically about their lab work, and evaluate the validity of their hypotheses.
- What’s in a Word? boxes give students the language background they need (about prefixes, suffixes, and word roots) to remember key terms.
- Clinical Correlations boxes appear in nearly every lab exercise, offering students real-world applications relevant to their future healthcare-related careers.
- Review Sheets conclude each exercise with a variety of matching, labeling, coloring, and short-answer questions for review and evaluation.
- An outstanding art program includes biomedical photographs by Ralph Hutchings with coordinated illustrations by renowned artists Bill Ober and Claire Garrison to provide students with side-by-side figures to better view and understand anatomy & physiology. Numerous histology micrographs by Robert Tallitsch help students learn about tissues.
