Description

  • Common sense typographic best practices–illustrated with before and after examples
  • In-depth information on InDesign’s type-related tools and preferences allowing students to elevate their type above the ordinary
  • Appropriate for screen and print typography
  • Teaches skill essential for every graphic designer

The 4th edition expands upon the existing content in three ways:
1. An extensive discussion of the challenges and conventions of screen typography. InDesign Type has its roots in print typography and, while screen typography was mentioned in the previous edition, it was more as a sidebar than on an equal pegging. The new edition, would aim to put screen typography on an almost-equal level to print typography. There would be a discussion of setting type for ePubs, fixed layout ePubs, as well as screen presentations and using InDesign’s Publish Online feature (new since the last edition).

2. Adding and revising content in light of the changes introduced in the most recent updates to InDesign—especially Typekit (barely mentioned in the third edition because it had only just launched), Contextual Type controls, and expanded OpenType support.

3. Going deeper on existing content as the product and the author’s approach have evolved over the years.
