The world of investing normally sees experts telling us the ‘right’ way to manage our money. How often do these experts pull back the curtain and tell us how they invest their own money? Never.
How I Invest My Money changes that.
In this unprecedented collection, 25 financial experts share how they navigate markets with their own capital. In this honest rendering of how they invest, save, spend, give, and borrow, this group of portfolio managers, financial advisors, venture capitalists and other experts detail the ‘how’ and the ‘why’ of their investments. They share stories about their childhood, their families, the struggles they face and the aspirations they hold. Sometimes raw, always revealing, these stories detail the indelible relationship between our money and our values.
Taken as a whole, these essays powerfully demonstrate that there is no single ‘right’ way to save, spend, and invest. We see a kaleidoscope of perspectives on stocks, bonds, real assets, funds, charity, and other means of achieving the life one desires. With engaging illustrations throughout by Carl Richards, How I Invest My Money inspires readers to think creatively about their financial decisions and how money figures in the broader quest for a contented life.

I highly recommend reading “How I Invest Ny Money,” I think you’ll learn a lot and learn that even the experts have very different paths to investment success —James P. O’Shaughnessy, Chairman O’Shaughnessy Asset Management and author of “What Works on Wall Street, 4th Edition.”If you’ve always wondered how your financial planner or that investing expert you see on TV invests their cash, this is the book for you … a great place to turn for practical, new ideas on how to invest your money. —Liz Knueven, Business InsiderThis is the book I’ve needed and wanted to read my entire adult life! Brian Portnoy and Joshua Brown gathered together an extraordinary group of financial experts and asked them to pull back the covers on how and why they’ve invested their own money. Their values and motivations, their fears and hopes will resonate with everyone who picks up this book. Never has there been such an open-hearted, generous, and actionable collection of financial wisdom in one place. — Moira Somers, Ph.D., C.Psych. Author, Advice that SticksBehind every portfolio is a unique human being with her own goals, dreams, and time lines. So before you determine the right balance of stocks v. bonds, you must answer the question, “what do I want from life?” In How I Invest My Money, leading financial experts offer candid insight into how their relationships, fears, and passions drive their investment strategies and tactics, many of which run counter to prevailing financial wisdom. You may be surprised to learn that the only sacred cow is one’s own vision. — Paul Ollinger, Host, Crazy Money PodcastEach of these stories is interesting on its own, but the beauty of this book is that it allows the reader to detect themes across all the stories. Money stands for different things to different investors, but the common themes of independence, generosity, engagement, and empowerment really make this book stand out. Simultaneously hopeful and comforting to read, I strongly recommend this book to investors across the spectrum: the novices as well as the veterans. — Nicole M.
