Global Children, Global Media

Children today are growing up in a world of global media, in which the voices of many cultures compete for attention. Increasing numbers of children are also citizens of the globe: they live in multicultural societies, many have migrated themselves and live within active diasporic and transnational networks. The authors offer a fresh perspective on the relationships between media, globalisation and contemporary childhood.

DAVID BUCKINGHAM is Professor of Education, Institute of Education, University of London, UK, and Director of the Institute’s Centre for the Study of Children, Youth and Media. He is the author, co-author or editor of many books including Young People, News and Politics, After the Death of Childhood: Growing Up in the Age of Electronic Media and Media Education: Literacy, Learning and Contemporary Culture.
LIESBETH DE BLOCK is Research Fellow, Centre for the Study of Children, Youth and Media, Institute of Education, University of London, UK where she teaches in the Doctoral School’s research methods programme and the MA in Media and Cultural Studies.
