This book explores the role of Article 47 of the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights—which guarantees the right to effective judicial protection—in consumer cases before the Court of Justice of the European Union, as well as civil courts in Spain and the Netherlands. Dr. J.M.L. (Anna) van Duin is Assistant Professor of Private Law and Digital Justice at the University of Amsterdam. She is Deputy Director of the Amsterdam Centre for Transformative Private Law (ACT) and Editor of the Dutch Journal of Civil Procedure (Tijdschrift voor Civiele Rechtspleging). After graduating from Leiden University and the University of Oxford, she worked as a litigator for six years. She has authored several publications on consumer law and access to justice and participated in EU-funded projects on judicial cooperation and fundamental rights.
