Case Studies: Applying Educational Psychology, 2e is designed to help future teachers better understand and apply principles of educational psychology and related disciplines.  This is accomplished when they have numerous opportunities to see such principles in action. In this book the authors present classroom scenarios that illustrate a wide variety of phenomena related to development, learning, motivation, diversity, and classroom practice. Accompanying each scenario are questions encouraging readers to look beneath the surface of classroom events and consider how various concepts and theoretical perspectives might enhance understanding and offer possible strategies and interventions.  At the core of all of the cases in this book are true stories.

  • Five new cases to the collection, including three at the preschool level: “The Bully” (Case 1), “Haley and Meredith” (Case 5), “Animal Shelters” (Case 27), “I Bit My Tongue” (Case 28), and “The Unmotivated Student” (Case 39).
  • The 48 cases are grouped into four general categories––child and adolescent development, learning and cognition, motivation and classroom management, and instruction and assessment––but all of them have relevance to two or more of these areas (see the matrix immediately following the table of contents).
  • Additional questions for the 43 cases from the first edition, with the focus being on questions that mimic those that future teachers are apt to find on state licensure exams.
  • The cases have been field-tested in classes in educational psychology and related disciplines.
  • An Instructor’s Manual is available, offering possible responses to the questions for each case.
